I’ve been a manufacturers rep for three firms, two of which I stated.  Manufacturers reps have unique interests, needs, and desires.  Essentially, reps sell TIME, a finite quantity and one of which there is never enough.  I is hard for reps to find time to actually SELL and do the higher end functions that best insure long term prosperity.. 

 

If you had the time, wouldn’t you like to…

>>   know which lines will make you money and which will cost you?

>>   know what the products of the future are going to be?

>>   find out what new products are going to take off and which old ones are going to die?

>>   raise your level of selling further up the food chain to owners and architects, for example?

>>   produce presentations to showcase your company's capabilities to potential vendors

>>   produce customized presentations on key products for key customers?

>>   know the impact of legislation, internet, energy initiatives, rebate programs, LEED, etc?

>>   have a website that  becomes a resource for your customers and enhances your image?

>>   strategies for making your firm more profitable?

>>   produce case studies, newsletters, emailers, and other materials that keep your firm in front of  your customers?

>>   have a succession plan?

 

Well...this is what I do, the great things you CAN do but just can’t get around to them.  Essentially, you will be outsourcing those functions that are so hard to do in-house.
